It is the year 2187, and mankind has been out among the stars for a hundred years. We have survived politics, social unrest, wars and the general atrocities that seem to be endemic with growing civilizations. You know, business as usual. Things are relatively peaceful for the moment. Earth and all of her colonies are members of the Terran Allied Worlds and are enjoying propsperity for the most part.
Captain Jeremiah Keel, Captain Owner of the freighter Rusted Nuts and his multi-species crew are just trying to make a living. But when the cargo they are carrying is refused by the colony planet Briar Patch, it leaves them almost bankrupt.
In an effort to recover from this financial disaster, Keel agrees to take on a passenger: a Terran Allied Worlds Trade Minister named Matthew Holcroft. Holcroft needs transportation to the planet Antirae, colonized by a race of aliens called the B'Hirute, for some delicate negotiations.
From that point on, Keel's problems only spiral out of control as he discovers that nobody is exactly who they appear to be...
